Peas

Why are Peas important?

Peas are a highly nutritious and versatile crop that plays an important role in human and animal diets. They are an excellent source of plant-based protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals, making them a great alternative to meat for vegetarians and vegans. Peas are also rich in antioxidants, which can help reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. In addition to their nutritional benefits, peas are also an important crop in sustainable agriculture, as they can fix nitrogen in the soil, reducing the need for synthetic fertilizers. Peas are used in a variety of food products, including soups, snacks, and plant-based protein powders. Additionally, peas are used in the production of biofuels, providing a sustainable and renewable energy source.

Why is Pea Processing a challenge?

Processing raw peas into powder for commercial use presents various challenges that must be addressed. One of the primary obstacles is the removal of the tough and fibrous outer seed coat or hull to achieve a smooth and uniform powder. The hull contains anti-nutrients that can diminish the bioavailability of nutrients and negatively affect the taste and texture of the final product. Peas also have a high starch content, which makes them vulnerable to clumping during processing and storage, leading to inconsistent product quality. Transporting raw peas can be challenging due to their high moisture content, making them bulky and inefficient to transport. Moreover, current processing methods rely heavily on fossil fuels and heat, which can have environmental consequences.

The ADAR Solution

ADAR Technologies has conducted extensive tests on peas to develop a more sustainable and efficient solution for processing them. Our technology has been proven to dry, pulverize, and sanitize peas, resulting in a nutrient-rich output that is highly useful in various commercial applications. The output material is a fine and completely dry milled pea protein powder that is comparable in consistency to those sold in food stores. Our technology can also achieve a significant reduction in moisture content and eliminate mold/mildew contamination without relying on heat or fossil fuels. This breakthrough provides a more sustainable and eco-friendly option for processing peas for commercial use.
